Emotion-Focused Family Therapy Advanced Caregivers Workshop
Is your loved one experiencing anxiety, depression, disordered eating, and difficulty managing intense emotions? Have they been engaging in unhealthy behaviours in an attempt to cope? This Advanced Caregiving course is based on Emotion-Focused Family Therapy, which is an evidence-based treatment that empowers caregivers to be agents of change in their loved one’s mental health journey

About the Group

In a small group of other caregivers (no more than 12 caregivers working with two facilitators), we will combine experiential learning and skill-building to strengthen caregiver capacity to support the recovery and healing of their teen’s mental health. This is a comprehensive workshop with time for discussion, reflection, teaching, and practice. We will be using Zoom chat functions, video, and breakout rooms to make this a dynamic and intimate workshop.

Workshop Objectives:
Parents are often called on to be the primary supporter of their loved one’s mental health recovery, yet there is often little support for the parents as they navigate challenging mental health symptoms. The workshop has five objectives:
  1. Identify emotions involved in supporting loved ones who struggle with mental health.
  2. Develop an awareness of your current caregiving patterns and styles
  3. Learn how to become a recovery coach by helping your loved one to interrupt symptoms, change maladaptive behaviours, and tolerate distress
  4. Learn how to support loved ones to approach, process, and manage difficult emotions
  5. Become facilitators of relationship repair to help heal old emotional wounds.

Yes, we strongly recommend both parents attend if possible.
Can I attend only one day?
No, this is a 2 day workshop.
What is the Cancellation policy?
7 full business days for refund
If my teen is not living with me is this workshop still helpful?
Yes. The caregiver workshop helps teens regulate their emotions and change behaviours via learning emotion and behaviour coaching. It also helps strengthen communication and repair relationship wounds.
What if my teen doesn’t want therapy?
That’s OK. This workshop is to support you and help you feel more confident and resourced. Evidence consistently
shows that the mental health outcomes are better when caregivers are supported and involved in their loved one’s care.
Are you offering this in person?
Not at this time.
Can I speak with the facilitators before the workshop begins?
Yes, we will be providing a 10 min individual meet and greet to answer individual concerns regarding the group.
How many caregivers are in the workshop?
No more than 12. This group will remain small to allow for individual discussion and practice.
