Jenny Comeau (she/her) is a Registered Social Worker (RSW) and Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) who has been practicing since 2008 as a master’s level
clinician/therapist. She has worked in a variety of mental health inpatient and outpatient settings at BC Children’s hospital including the Neuropsychiatry and Infant Psychiatry, ADHD, and Urgent Assessment clinics in the outpatient department, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Emergency (CAPE) and Child Psychiatry.

Jenny’s therapeutic intervention involves calmly working with individuals, couples and families to facilitate goal setting and jointly generate strategies to achieve this. She has a strong understanding of family dynamics. Often she externalizes the problem to help children and families accept certain challenging behaviours and help families explore their own competencies and resiliencies. Jenny has been complimented by her supervisor for her gentle way of interacting with children and her ability to model respectful teen-adult relations. In addition, she has completed level two of in
Emotionally Focused Family therapy with Gail Palmer which is grounded in Dr Sue Johnson’s work. She has also completed level one of Emotion-focused family therapy with Dr Adele Lafrance.

Couples therapy: Family therapy may include intervening with the most stressed dyad which is often the couple. Therefore much of her clinical intervention is through work with the couple. She has completed level one of Gottmans’ couples therapy. During couples work she will explore each of the parent’s family of origin and how this impacts their parenting today. She has supported couples in grief work around miscarriages that have occurred years prior which may be interfering in how they parent now.

Family therapy: She has been a clinical instructor in the Faculty of Medicine,
Department of Psychiatry, at the University of British Columbia in the family therapy clinic in the outpatient psychiatry department (OPD) where she provided training to psychiatry residents for over a decade. In that role, she taught residents how to tease out Pathologizing Interpersonal Patterns (PIPs) and co-construct new Healing Interpersonal Patterns (HIPs). She has experience training medical students and psychiatry residents to use genograms, and circular questions including, interpersonal perception questions, triadic questions, difference questions, and behavioral effect
questions.

Jenny believes family work is really effective at creating more peace in your home. She truly passionate about her work with families. She believes in a families and individuals capacity for change. She strives to create safety for everyone in the therapeutic process.
