
Liz Kay, MSW, RSW, RCC has been involved in the counseling field since 2008. She has extensive experience working with adolescents and young adults facing a variety of mental health concerns. Complementing this work, Liz has specialized training to work with caregivers and to provide family therapy. Her clinical skills have been informed by her work a variety of settings including residential treatment, outreach, non-profit agencies and as clinic head of the BC Children’s Hospital Concurrent Disorders Program.
Liz has been described as a warm, dedicated and collaborative clinician. She believes that the youth she works with, although struggling, have tremendous capacity for growth. Knowing that youth and families may be reluctant to be entering counselling, Liz works on developing and maintaining a strong therapeutic relationship. Liz is trained and proficient in a variety of evidence based treatment approaches including dialectical behavioural therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing, and trauma informed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotion Focus Therapy, and Emotion Focused Family Therapy.

BA, BSW, and MSW from the University of British Columbia.
Registered social worker with the BC College of Social Workers (#10904).

Fees:
Free 20 minute phone consultation offered
$160 for a 50 minute session with individuals.
$175 for a 50 minute session with couples or families.
Payment in the form of cash, cheques, or email transfer is due at the end of each session unless other arrangements have been made. Please note that 2 days notice is required to cancel a scheduled appointment to avoid being charged the full session fee.
Liz is also a certified counsellor with the Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP). The Crime Victim Assistance Program offers financial assistance to help with some of the costs and services needed to assist in recovering from or coping with the effects of violence/crime. Contact VictimLink BC to see if you can access counselling funding through CVAP. If you are registered, the counselling fee for a session with Liz could be directly billed to CVAP, at no cost to the client.
Some third party payment plans such as Extended Health Care Insurance and Employee/Family Assistance Programs pay partial or total coverage for counselling services. Please follow up with your benefits plan/health care provider.
