Merryn Singer (she/her), is a Registered Clinical Counsellor who has extensive experience in both group and individual psychotherapy and counselling and has been practicing since 2008 as a therapist in long-term and short-term therapies. She has a background in psychodynamic and depth psychology and is person-focused in her approach. She uses an integrative model to include different treatment interventions depending on the needs of her clients. Her training and experience have allowed her to practice in a range of inpatient and outpatient contexts and with a diversity of clients with various presenting problems and cultural backgrounds, both in South Africa and Canada and she continues to work with youth, parents and families within the BC public health system.
At the heart of Merryn’s practice is meeting the person in front of her as and where they are, and working with them to uncover unhelpful patterns that interfere with their ability to engage fully in life. She integrates psychodynamic theory and practice with evidence-based interventions to better understand the client, while equipping them with skills to help them facilitate their own development and growth. She has worked with adults, youth and children, often with complex concerns and has a particular passion for working with parents in different contexts.
Merryn has guided clients through trauma; loss and grief; life transitions; struggles in relationships, life and work; existential concerns; and exploration and deeper understanding of themselves.
She has experience with acute, developmental, and intergenerational trauma; Dialectical Behavior Therapy; parenting support and groups; play therapy; pain management and medical psychology; therapeutic work in palliative care; and has worked broadly with psychiatric diagnoses.
Merryn uses she/her pronouns and supports inclusivity of BIPOC and LGBTQ2S + and non-binary clients as well as all configurations of family structures.
Merry is currently offering sessions both in-person and online.
